3 can’t-miss events at the Frontières International Co-Production Market at Fantasia

28 • 06

It’s no secret that Canada loves coproduction, and the Frontières International Co-production Market is all about encouraging and supporting collaboration and coproduction between Canadian and European genre filmmakers and industry pros! How? Frontières puts together three annual events for genre projects at different stages of development. There’s one in Cannes; one that travels; and the upcoming Frontières market happening in Montreal from July 18 through 21, 2019 at the Fantasia International Film Festival — an event specially tailored for projects in early stages of development and financing.

With 10 North American and 10 European projects being presented this year in the Market’s official selection; loads of networking, pitching, meeting, and development opportunities; and attendees from an average of 28 countries, you won’t want to miss this Montreal event! (Pssst! Frontières is an initiative of the Fantasia International Film Festival, which takes place in Montreal from July 11 to August 1, 2019 and registration is still open here).

And, of course, Canada will be there to help its international partners, homegrown talent, and industry delegates make the most of their Frontières market experience.

Check out these three awesome events:

1 – Producers Network Power Hours: Meet the Financiers (Thursday, July 18, 3:30 to 5:30)

Check out this productive roundtable session of talks with industry experts hosting primed to share their finance, sales, or distribution expertise, who hold court at a roundtable to meet with groups of producers. (Presented by the SODEC).

2 – Created by Women: Pitch & Development Session (Friday, July 19, 10:30 to 12:30)

Come watch projects being pitched and getting immediate feedback from a panel of experts! At this popular event, a selection of five Canadian female screenwriters and directors “speed pitch” their genre projects in three minutes flat. Once each shares her pitch, experts sound off with feedback and questions. (Co-presented in collaboration with Telefilm Canada, Women in Film & Television – Vancouver and Super Channel.)

3 – Shorts to Features: Pitch & Development Session (Saturday July 20, 10:30 to 12:30)

Shorts en route to becoming features is the theme of this pitch and development session, created for Canadian short filmmakers aspiring to develop feature-length versions of these projects. Seven selected participants screen their shorts and pitch their feature ideas, at the script development stage and seeking a producer. (Co-presented by Telefilm Canada and the SODEC, and in collaboration with the Dead North Film Festival in Yellowknife and SPASM.) Bonus – Telefilm is proud to have supported two Indigenous projects of the seven selected!
