Canada’s virtual festival presence is making a real impact! We scooped up prizes at CANNESERIES and the MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence Awards.

CANNESERIES

At CANNESERIES, Canadian series Claire and the elderly (Claire et les vieux) won the Best Short Form Télécâble Sat Hebdo Award! The series by Charles Grenier (produced by UGO Media) is about a young girl who bonds with her grandmother and other residents in this six-episode series set in a seniors residence.

Psst: This win follows in the Canadian footsteps of last year’s victor; Mara Joly’s Home Turf (La maison des folles), produced by St Laurent TV.

MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence Awards

As for the fourth edition of the MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence Awards, the event was live-streamed to TV industry professionals, talent, and fans across the world. The Canadian series Employable Me! (produced by Thomas Howe Associates Inc.) took home the Representation of Disability – Non-Scripted award!

The Representation of LGTBQ+ – Scripted prize went to Feel Good, a UK series starring Canadian comedian Mae Martin, who co-wrote the series with Joe Hampson. While presenting this award in a video segment, Toronto’s Jean Yoon (star of the CBC series Kim’s Convenience) shared some passionate, powerful words!

With Telefilm Canada and Canada Media Fund as co-presenting partners of this year’s event, the MIPCOM Diversify TV Excellence Awards are all about bolstering inclusion and diversity in the industry.
