The Canadian Innovation Lounge returns to SXSW 2025

The Canadian Innovation Lounge returns to SXSW for its second year, offering an exciting opportunity to explore innovative projects that are shaping the way we play, create and live. Organized by Telefilm Canada, the dedicated space will showcase projects ranging from XR experiences for home and out-of-home, to VR and AI solutions that are transforming learning and lifestyles. Several of these projects have been selected to compete in the prestigious SXSW Pitch competition. 

A new selection of projects will be presented each day from March 9–11 at the Fairmont Hotel’s Primrose Room (4th floor). Here’s what’s in store for each day: 

 

March 9 – Canadian Innovation Lounge: XR, AI + Quantum Chemistry 

 

Explore how technology can be used in new ways to push the boundaries of what’s possible with the stories we tell and the stories we live. 

 

Award-winning Games by Stitch will preview their upcoming VR and mobile co-op escape room game, Elsewhere Electric, with hours of gameplay. 

Shocap Entertainment will showcase a range of XR entertainment projects that engage audiences at live events and at home. 

Priam Givord XR Studio will unveil their gallery-commissioned time-traveling experience that illustrates what’s possible when creating unprecedented levels of realism and detail to enhance learning. The project, first launched at the esteemed Art Gallery of Ontario, is The AGO Bristol 1775 VR Experience. 

In addition, Xatoms will demonstrate how AI and quantum chemistry can be used to predict real-world solutions that can change lives by revolutionizing water purification for communities. 

 

March 10 – Canadian Innovation Lounge: Spotlight on LBE

  

Discover the future of placemaking and location-based experiences.  

 

4elements will showcase one of their experiences, Timber, to demonstrate how immersive gamified multiplayer experiences can transform spaces and spark new connections. 

Infinite Frame Media will be previewing a brand new mixed reality non-linear documentary experience called Reich of Ashes: Journey of Survival. It is being built for both touring and home audiences.  

Story City will be demonstrating how their location-based content and solutions can transform destinations into playable adventures. They’ll be showcasing their growing catalogue of stories that can be placed in any city. 

 

March 11 – Canadian Innovation Lounge: Life & Play  

 

Experience innovations that are shaping the way we create, play and sleep. 

 

Studio Affordance will demonstrate how game design and technology solutions can bring cinematic narratives to life in compelling new ways, and will present Two Falls (Nishu Takuatshina)  

Salemscript Productions will show aspiring sound engineers how to master mixing, equalizing, pitching, and recording skills in a VR simulation called Audio Odyssey. 

Bía Sleep’s groundbreaking wearable technology will help you get the best sleep possible. 

Sigen AI will be your key to transforming video data into privacy-compliant, monetizable assets.
