We know we still have work to do to in order to meet our 2020 goal\u201d.<\/p><\/blockquote>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-34e618c elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"34e618c\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-c051176\" data-id=\"c051176\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dd8a0e5 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dd8a0e5\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<h2><strong>The breakdown<\/strong><\/h2><p>Overall, funding for films with a female lead producer had the greatest increase, with <b>61 percent of all projects funded having a female lead producer (up from 48 percent last year)<\/b>. Also of note is a growth in funding for projects with women in key creative roles in the $2.5m+ features category. This stream was identified by the industry as a key priority budget category, as it has proven to be the most challenging for women creators. Projects with a woman as lead producer received <b>$23.8 million <\/b>(<b>42 percent<\/b> of the category\u2019s total funding) while female-directed projects got<b> $12.9 million <\/b>(<b>23 percent <\/b>of the category\u2019s total funding), and projects penned by women received <b>$19.2 million<\/b> (<b>34 percent<\/b> of the category\u2019s total funding).<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t<\/section>\n\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-290531db elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"290531db\" data-element_type=\"section\" data-e-type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-default\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-6017a8b7\" data-id=\"6017a8b7\" data-element_type=\"column\" data-e-type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-f28a715 elementor-widget elementor-widget-image\" data-id=\"f28a715\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"image.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1002\" height=\"397\" src=\"https:\/\/rdvcanada.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/percentage.png\" class=\"attachment-large size-large wp-image-25733\" alt=\"\" srcset=\"https:\/\/rdvcanada.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/percentage.png 1002w, https:\/\/rdvcanada.ca\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/08\/percentage-768x304.png 768w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1002px) 100vw, 1002px\" \/>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-c349cce elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"c349cce\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>\u201cTelefilm has<span style=\"font-weight: 700;\">&nbsp;increased its investment in higher budget films with women at the helm<\/span>, and would like to give even more female directors an opportunity to direct a bigger budget feature.&nbsp;<span style=\"font-weight: 700;\">&nbsp;A collaborative approach is necessary<\/span>&nbsp;so that talent may receive the support it needs,\u201d Dickenson said. \u201cWe\u2019re already giving them a calling card by investing in their first and second features at a lower budget level. We also need our distribution partners, producers and broadcasters to join us by supporting more women in the director\u2019s chair for higher budget projects. It is clear that global audiences have an appetite for greater representation in storytelling, and we want to give them as much opportunity as possible, however we cannot do it alone.\u201d<\/p><p>In addition to production financing efforts, Telefilm is also providing<span style=\"font-weight: 700;\">&nbsp;<\/span>targeted support in development for women writers with the objective of ensuring a greater presence of the female storytelling perspective.<\/p><p>Beyond the numbers, other initiatives have been put in place to help showcase, promote, and increase the global visibility of Canada\u2019s female storytellers and female-led projects.
